Ok, so maybe keeping a weekly journal is harder than I thought it would be.
So what's new with Strain?
If you recall my last blog post I showed an image of some grey circles. Compare that to the following Image and you should have a pretty good idea of some basic improvements to the game.

Colour. Textures. Models. Camera effects. Wow.
The artists have been working hard over the past two weeks and the models and textures in the above image are just a sampler of what's to come.
Meanwhile David, our the teams designer, has been working on camera effects, particles and overall game design.
But now to the important information. What have our programmers been doing these past two weeks...?
I have been spending a lot of my time working on the special weapons and abilities that the player will use to combat the deadly virus cells in this microscopic battle arena. The laser, shield, explosive bullets and charge attack have all been fully implemented and only require a little polish before I would consider them completed.
I also have been spending time working on a new and more intuitive UI to present vital information to the player. And don't worry, the UI in the above image IS NOT representative of the quality to be expected in the final product. I have already implemented several iterations of the UI that were discarded due to faults that my team or I later picked up on. The current design however, or how the current design is expected to be is already looking like a winner.
In the next few weeks I'm expecting to be able to move away from player and UI related work and start helping Andrew with enemy AI and level creation.
I'm also going to try and come up with a better blog title naming scheme. I'm starting to lose track.
