Well, a lot has changed.
Strain, formerly a game of survival in a world that is slowly falling to the zombie apocalypse, has undergone much genetic change and I am proud to say it is now a whole new breed. Two weeks ago my team and I pitched our game idea to a panel of industry professionals and were overwhelmed with feedback. It didn't take us long to realize that our current game direction and gameplay were lacking and in desperate need of improvement. So after a week of discussion we have decided on a new direction. The main focus of the game is very similar, a unique virus is spreading that needs to be wiped out. The aesthetic has changed, rather than a human withing a city crawling with zombies, you play as a nano-bot within a human body, tasked with clearing out the virus to save the life of the human. A game of survival has turned into a top-down arcade twin stick shooter, focusing on solid gameplay and fun mechanics to draw in the player and keep them hooked.
Our old prototype has is being shoved to the side as we eagerly start work on this new project. As before I have been working on the main gameplay like movement and shooting, really putting effort in to nail the controls and make them feel meaningful. Not much has been done but already I can see the beginnings of something beautiful.

I know it isn't much to look at but trust me, it's already a more enjoyable playing experience than our other prototype.
Next week I will be continuing my development journal, and I will really get into depth on our new development cycle and my progress.
